Folkestone & Hythe
English Heritage offers so many great places to visit on the Kent coast.

Enjoy an action packed day out at Dover Castle. Explore Secret Wartime Tunnels deep within the White Cliffs of Dover and discover the story of Dunkirk in an immersive exhibition. Step into the vivid Medieval Tower, and climb to the top for panoramic views across the channel. Roam over 80 acres of battlements, visit a Roman lighthouse and try your hand at Morse code in the Port War Signalling Station.

For a more tranquil coastal day out, visit Walmer Castle and Gardens. Once a Tudor fortress, Walmer Castle became a stately home for significant political figures, including William Pitt the Younger and the Iron Duke of Wellington. Stroll through acres of grounds with bright floral displays, a flourishing kitchen garden and a shady woodland walk. It’s the perfect setting for a day out in the fresh air.

Just down the coast from Walmer is Deal Castle, built on the orders of King Henry VIII and one of the finest Tudor artillery castles in England. Explore the castle from the tunnels below to the battlements above, and visit the exhibition to find out how Henry's turbulent reign shaped England's defences.
